THINKING THROUGH MAKING

ABOUT

From mark making to collage, and from illustration to sculpture, my workshops offer a huge variety of ways to get hands-on experience and explore new skills. Learn from experience, get closer to  materials and meet others in a creative environment.

MISSION

With 5 years teaching experience, Elyse not only holds a PGCE with qualified teacher status and an enhanced DBS certificate, but has delivered creative workshops for Samsung and UK art colleges including Royal College of Art. Whilst allowing participants to explore her playful style, Elyse's mission is to use fashion illustration as a tool to discuss issues surrounding fashion consumerism and landfill waste.

VISION

After teaching Textiles in UK secondary schools, Elyse has experienced first hand the decline in student engagement with creative subjects; meaning many young people are not seeing the value of craft and design, learning practical skills, or being informed about industry waste. This lack of value for materials and making has also been influenced by the introduction of the E-Baccalaureate performance measure.

Through organisations that promote sustainable and circular design, galleries and independent means, Elyse wants to integrate workshops that allow young people to think through making and encourage positive change for the future.

ROYAL COLLEGE OF ART | WORKSHOP

How to utilise scrap materials to create 3D fashion illustrations that represent consumer waste.

Participant Review

"Elyse's workshop in 3d fashion illustration using scrap was really fun and engaging. She gave an inspiring overview of her practice as a textile artist and fashion illustrator and then introduced simple and fun methods for 3d illustration using basic readily available materials. This included mark making, the use of colour, composition, iteration and collage to build a personal and intuitive approach to illustrating fashion. Giving us these creative tools and approaches Elyse created a fun, relaxing and inclusive atmosphere where I felt free to experiment and make things with my hands. It could easy be a longer workshop taking up half or full day, or be delivered as a series of workshops. I would definitely do it again!"

TEXT IN FASHION

FASHIONING OUR HISTORY | MAYOR OF LONDON FUNDED

Supporting diversity in the creative industries by delivering online workshops to young people of Brent, demonstrating how to include creative writing in fashion image making.

Participant Review

"It was a fun and interesting workshop which really focused on allowing you to be free and as creative as you wanted without having to be so precious with your work. I enjoyed seeing how to include text and writing within my own work which I wouldn't usually do. I can use this to technique to raise awareness of the things which are important to me and the people around me. It was inspiring to see your work and learn how you produced it, from this I can take on elements of these skill when it comes to my own work."

How to create a fashion illustration using mark making, faces and features, and 3D modelling.

Participant Review

"Fashion Illustration was something I never thought of. This workshop was immensely knowledgeable in terms of constructing an illustration and applying it into your own specialism. It was a great lesson to also be reminded of recycling and being mindful of the supplies we use in our practice."

"The workshops were really engaging and Elyse explained her process while showing us at the same time. I find it really interesting to see how she interpreted textures into marks. Thanks again!!"
