Have you ever thought about the power of creative workshops?

I have been hosting fashion illustration workshops since 2020, and whilst I initially started as a method of marketing myself and making connections, it has quickly grown into a fundamental part of my practice as an artist. In recent years, I've realised how powerful creative workshops can be to grow a community and to dissolve the hierarchy of who get's to engage with fashion. This has been an amazing and valuable opportunity for me to connect with people across all ages and locations across the UK. For myself, I get to build community of people in real life and inspire other people to draw. For venues, creative workshops can also help with engaging expanding your current audience.

Recent fashion illustration workshop at Bellanger, Islington 2026

I was recently contacted by Bellanger, a French restaurant by Islington Green, London. They have a private dining space that, if not used for larger celebrations, remains empty. The space feels Art Deco, surrounded by antique mirrors, dark wood floors and wainscot panelling. It is warm yet glamourous. The marketing and events team saw this as an opportunity to host creative evenings that utilised the space whilst also inviting new audiences to experience the restaurant. They had a particular focus on introducing a younger crowd to the restaurant.

As part of their engagement strategy, I was commissioned to host a 'Sip and Sketch' style evening, where guests would learn the art of fashion illustration whilst being served Pommery and canapés. Due to the restaurant being French, we hosted the workshop during the start or Paris Fashion Week and made this the theme of the workshop.

To support the advertising of tickets, I created bespoke illustrations to be used as graphic assets, these were used across the website, eventbrite listing, newsletter and social media. In additional, I created reels to engage with my online community, encouraging them to come to the workshop.

So did it work and who came?

See for yourself...

22 participants attended!

  • Some lived locally

  • Some had been following my instagram already

  • Some had attended one of my previous workshops

  • Some were beginners and really wanted to try fashion illustration

  • Some hadn't drawn for years but really wanted to

  • So many gave positive feedback and wanted to know when the next workshop was!

  • For most, this was their first time at the venue

This creative London workshop increased the venue's visibility. 22 more people now have a memory and direct link to the restaurant. Those who didn't attend, saw the advertising and marketing of the workshop and know they host creative events. The celebration of the event online made other people who did not attend know that it was a hugely successful event space the venue has. The list goes on!

Whilst the venue's target was to engage a younger audience, fashion illustration is not exclusive. My workshops in particular are accessible and inclusive for all ages and abilities. We had mature guests aged 90 and 80! Their enthusiasm, style, and engagement with the workshop was magical. Whilst having a target audience has a purpose, it doesn't have to be rigid or exclusive.

This type of workshop adapts to any location...

Whether it's a new coffee shop and co working space, such as Department Coffee, Spinningfields Manchester

A independent fashion store with a new collection, such as Norah Store in Ancoats, Manchester

Or an intimate wine bar, such as amie wine studio in the heart of Victoria, London

My fashion illustration workshops are consistently engagaging new audiences with both drawing and venues. Between Jan-Sept 2026, over 100 people have attended my fashion illustration events (excluding those in educational settings). People want to draw. People want to experience something in real life together. People want an evening in a cozy yet stylish setting.
