When people discover my work, it is often through fashion illustration. From live sketching at events to workshop posters and fashion-focused commissions, drawing the figure has become an important part of my practice. However, illustration extends far beyond fashion. Many of my commercial projects also focus on places, objects, environments and storytelling, helping brands communicate ideas through hand-drawn imagery that feels personal and distinctive.

Whether working with black fine liner in a sketchbook or developing artwork digitally in Procreate, my approach remains the same... drawing authentically, showing the human hand.

Editorial Illustration for Magazines, Newsletters and Zines

I have always loved using a fine liner. They carry such as strong aesthetic, yet are so versatile. Using fine liner pens, I create drawings that feel spontaneous, playful and full of character. My recent work for Original Magazine (see above) was inspired by doodled school books and art sketchbooks. Use for a zine cover for their community newsletter, these illustrations combined handwritten notes, decorative details and collections of everyday objects to create narrative-driven compositions. Through simple digital editing, I could resize every illustration and share variations of design ideas to the client.

This approach works particularly well for magazine covers, newsletters, editorial features and creative publications where brands want artwork that feels authentic and handmade. Rather than relying on polished graphics, hand-drawn illustrations introduce personality and encourage closer engagement with the content.

Illustrated Maps for Brands and Events

Illustrated maps are one of the most versatile forms of visual storytelling due to their relatablilty. They can guide visitors through an event, introduce a neighbourhood or provide a memorable way for brands to share recommendations and local knowledge.

For the London launch of Sarah Creal, I created an illustrated travel guide map of London (see above) , designed in Procreate while maintaining the character of a hand-drawn sketch. The project transformed practical information into an engaging visual experience, highlighting locations across the city through illustrated landmarks, details and playful visual references. Alongside the map cover, we showed fashionable figures located at key sites (see below).

Illustrated maps are ideal for hospitality brands, launches, activations, travel guides and destination-focused campaigns, creating branded experiences that audiences often keep long after the event itself.

Hand Drawn Posters for Fashion and Lifestyle Brands

As a workshop facilitator, I regularly create illustrated posters and promotional artwork for workshops, events and marketing campaigns. Many of these projects begin with analogue drawing before moving into a digital editing process. Working this way allows me to preserve the energy and texture of the original artwork while adapting it for different formats and applications.

I often explore scale within these commissions, taking drawings and zooming in on details to build bold promotional imagery. This process has informed artwork created for clients including Amie Wine Studio, Norah Store and Bellanger, where the goal is to create visual content that feels both artistic and commercially effective.

Sketchbook Style Illustration for Commercial Projects

Increasingly, brands are looking for alternatives to stock imagery and generic digital graphics. Hand-drawn illustration offers a visual language that feels human, considered and individual.

The versatility of drawing allows each commission to feel bespoke while maintaining a cohesive visual identity. I have created "sticker sheets" where multiple illustrated elements have been drawn, giving clients the flexibility to select and use illustrated graphics cohesively across digital platforms and image formats.

From Fine Liner Drawings to Digital Artwork

Although many projects begin on paper, digital tools allow drawings to evolve into flexible assets for clients. Using Procreate and digital editing software, I can refine compositions, experiment with scale and prepare artwork for both print and digital use. The process combines the warmth of traditional drawing with the adaptability required for contemporary commercial projects.

By starting with hand-drawn marks rather than purely digital creation, the final artwork retains a sense of authenticity that many brands are actively seeking.

Why Brands Choose Hand Drawn Illustration

Hand-drawn illustration offers more than decoration. It creates an emotional connection as it has been illustrated by an artist who carries personal value. The story of the artist and their hand adds depth to the commission, alongside the artwork itself. Audiences have a real curiosity for the person behind the art. For brands, this creates an opportunity to stand out through choosing the right artist with artwork that feels original, memorable and difficult to replicate.
